Koh Yao Yai Beach Resort
We stayed in Koh Yao Yai Beach Resort, because, first of all it was 'on our way' to south Thailand and Krabi area, and secondly because it was the only resort on the island with sunsets (facing west) and a possibility to swim during low tide as well. The room rates were very reasonable, around USD35 per night per bungalow and the resort had power for 24 hours.

The resort can arrange transfers from Phuket or Krabi and now, in hindsight, that would have been the easiest way to travel. Instead we took a transfer from Phuket to Bang Rong pier, from there a speedboat to Koh Yao Yai harbour and a taxi from the harbour to the resort and ended up paying even more than the resort's own transfer, which is the easier alternative.

Fishermen on Yao Yai
Part of the fish was dried in the traditional way to preserve it. Fridges are a new invention for the islanders and most people on these islands haven’t had electricity at all until very recently.

From Bang Rong to Koh Yao Yai
The boat trip in speed boat took less than two hours. The views of Andaman Sea were absolutely gorgeous.

Bang Rong Pier
Speed boats to Koh Yao Yai (Yao Yai Island) are leaving from this pier. The ticket price of about USD20/person includes also transportation from town to the pier. The speedboat had a big writing on the side: 'GREEN WORLD' but then it had three huge engines...VROOM VROOM!

Wat Chalong
Wat Chalong is the largest and most important Buddhist Temple on Phuket Island.
'Wats - or Buddhist temples - are among the most important symbols of Thailand, partly because the majority of Thais are Buddhist and partly because they are so beautiful. In Phuket alone, there are 29 Buddhist temples spread around the island.
In fact, this small island is also home to many other religions. There are Hindu and Sikh temples, Christian churches, mosques and Chinese shrines. Outside the wats there are also many more Buddhist shrines.'

Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Patong Beaches
These three beach resorts are very touristic, especially Patong Beach, full of hotels, restaurants, McDonalds, Starbucks, shops, nightclubs, bars etc. The quietest of these beaches is the southern most, Kata Noi.

Jui Jui Chinese Temple
The Jui Jui Temple in Phuket town is dedicated to a vegetarian god, Kiu Wong In, whose statue can be admired on the altar. His red face colour does not indicate fierceness but, according to Chinese symbolism, benevolence. Also interesting are the carved entrance doors of the temple.
